Regarding the download of the full macOS High Sierra installer app – I have personally used dosdude1’s patcher version for Sierra many times. He is a meticulous programmer who offers excellent support for the tool, and also a respected contributor on the Low End Mac facebook page. Definitely not “dubious” third party software imho. DosDude Catalina Patcher is a popular third-party tool that allows users to patch the MacOS Catalina installer on otherwise unsupported Macs. Of course, just because you can do this, doesn't mean.
Hi, I'm using a MacMini 3,1 and it runs Catalina with DosDude patcher. I created the Big Sur installer exactly following this manual. Big Sur starts, but at about 1/3 of the progress bar, I get a prohibited sign, so I never reach the installer screen. What DosDude1 thinks about Big Sur (in terms of a new patcher) Edit: all Big Sur patcher discussion goes in r/bigsurpatcher, don’t ask here because I probably won’t respond So I got to take with him on discord (on the server) about what he thinks about a new Big Sur patcher. The patcher downloads the original installation file for Big Sur (or optionally, the public or developer beta), and also downloads a micropatcher for kexts and other resources that allow macOS 11.

I saw on a pinned message in Discord that dosdude1 wasn’t going to work on one because of time and the fact that the Big Sur is structured differently.

Correct. u/barrykn has a patcher out which is in testing but I stopped testing after Beta 3 due to the complexity of installing Big Sur on older machines and not having GPU acceleration
